Open the Book

As the Open the Book ministry may be new to some of you, let me share some details with you. The Bible Society produces all the material we use, providing the scripts and prayers for each presentation. This takes the form of a 10-15 minute Bible story, using drama and concluding with a prayer.

As audience participation is welcomed by the children [& ourselves], they will often take part in the story telling. We have a wide range of props and costumes to help with the

visual impact, as you can see. Each session is closed by an appropriate action song – enjoyed by everyone, even when we muddle the actions!

The team visit seven Primary Schools in the local area six times a year - taking Bible stories to over 1000 children and 40 staff each time, many of whom will not have heard about our faith.

We are delighted that the scheme has widened to presentations in Care Homes, and we visit two of these in Trowbridge. The comfort of the stories and the awakening of memories in the residents is humbling and exciting to see.
