Easter at St James

We had a very busy time over Easter and were blessed with many ways to remember, celebrate and worship the sacrifice and triumphant return of our Risen Lord.

Starting with the Easter Experience week where we welcomed 300 children from local primary schools to learn about the story of Easter. We concluded the week with our Palm Sunday outside service with a live donkey which was blessed with good weather.

The Holy Week play, Pilgrims of the Cross, was a huge success. Written by the late Peter English the play was adapted and directed by Angela Giddings. During that week the play took a break for the Maundy Thursday service which began with a simple meal and was followed by a Meditation in Music and Verse remembering Jesus' last meal with his disciples before his death, concluding with the sharing bread and wine.

On Good Friday we hosted the annual CATA joint churches service which was followed by the March of Witness. This saw hundreds of people brave the rain to walk through Trowbridge town centre stopping along the way for bible readings, prayers and singing accompanied by the Salvation Army Band. The event culminated in Trowbridge Town park where the rain stopped and the sun shone out.

During our Easter Sunday service we were blessed to witness an adult baptism accompanied by a truly inspiring and moving testimonial. The service was followed by an Easter Egg Hunt in the church yard.

A big thank you to Kevin Hartley for his photographic contribution.
